Turning a 2,191-page guide into something you can actually ask a question

SmartAssembly developers needed an assistant grounded in the SmartAssembly admin guide — but that guide runs 2,191 pages. Keyword search across a document that size returns a page number, not an answer, and manually indexing it command-by-command isn’t work a small team can absorb on top of everything else.

Neha wrote a parsing script that read the entire guide and restructured it into 1,491 discrete, structured commands, loaded into a Dataverse retrieval layer built for exact lookup — paired with semantic search for the fuzzier questions a rigid lookup would miss. Component validation ran the way the rest of AISE builds: graded with evals, not eyeballed.

Built to survive a replatform

That Dataverse layer went on to survive a full replatform: the retrieval flow was rebuilt natively as a Copilot Studio Workflow when SAM moved onto the new skills-based experience, and the same eval discipline caught the two remaining gaps in the parity run (73/75). It passed UAT and went live in PROD on September 18, 2026, renamed simply SAM.
